GoodReads Monday

This weekly meme was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. It is now being hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog. To participate, choose a random book from your GoodReads TBR and show it off. Which sounds easy enough until you have to decide how to choose that book! I think I will use a different way each week, like picking a color or number of pages. I will let you know each week how I chose the book and then something interesting about it, like how it ended up on the list or why I want to read it. Got it? Okay let’s get started.

This week’s post is being brought to you by the letter ‘J’. I’ve been having fun using the alphabet to help me choose books for this post each week and I hope that you all have been enjoying them to. I was sort of hoping that looking at my TBR list this way would help me eliminate some of the books, but alas, I seem to be adding more lately. I am slowly coming to accept that, although it still kinds of bug me that I have this list, but only use it to really look for books for this post and to keep track of new releases that I want to read. Oh well, on to this week’s pick.

The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem

Publication Date: July 18, 2023

Summary from Goodreads:

Ten years ago, the kingdom of Jasad burned. Its magic outlawed; its royal family murdered down to the last child. At least, that’s what Sylvia wants people to believe.
The lost Heir of Jasad, Sylvia never wants to be found. She can’t think about how Nizahl’s armies laid waste to her kingdom and continue to hunt its people—not if she wants to stay alive. But when Arin, the Nizahl Heir, tracks a group of Jasadi rebels to her village, staying one step ahead of death gets trickier.
In a moment of anger Sylvia’s magic is exposed, capturing Arin’s attention. Now, to save her life, Sylvia will have to make a deal with her greatest enemy. If she helps him lure the rebels, she’ll escape persecution.
A deadly game begins. Sylvia can’t let Arin discover her identity even as hatred shifts into something more. Soon, Sylvia will have to choose between the life she wants and the one she left behind. The scorched kingdom is rising, and it needs a queen.

In this Egyptian-inspired debut fantasy, a fugitive queen strikes a deadly bargain with her greatest enemy and finds herself embroiled in a complex game that could resurrect her scorched kingdom or leave it in ashes forever.

This is a very recent addition to my TBR list as I have only recently begun to see reviews of it. It sounds good and I have always like Egyptian mythology so I have high hopes for it. I don’t think I will be reading it anytime soon though. I do have quite a few really long books already in the queue, but it is certainly one that I will keep in mind for the fall.

Have you read The Jasad Heir? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I really enjoyed The Jasad Heir. I don’t know enough about Egyptian mythology to see how much it was influenced by the myths but it was a great fantasy story with an interesting twist on the young girl being a hidden princess theme.
