First Lines Friday

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  • Finally… reveal the book!

Got it? Okay let’s go! Here is the quote…

So I’m writing again. Which is good news, I suppose, for those wanting a second book, but more unfortunate for the people who had to die so I could write it.”

Do you know this one?

This book came out at the end of last month…

It is the second book in a series and it takes place on a train

Have you guessed?

Yes? No?

Give up?

Here it is!

Everyone On This Train is a Suspect

I love that first line. How can you not want to read on and find out who dies and why? This book was just as good as the first one in the series, Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone. I highly recommend you read both of them, especially if you like twisty murder mysteries with a sarcastic narrator and a lot of humor.
