Prompt: Flower Power

About this picture:

This picture was taken on the University of Washington campus (Go Dawgs!) Every March thousands people come from miles around to see the Yoshino cherry trees in full bloom. This is such an event that it is even announced on the evening news! This was my first year going and I wasn’t disappointed.

There are almost 30 trees on this part of the campus. I have never really thought that cherry blossoms were all that fragrant, but with that many blossoms, you could smell them as you approached the quad. It was quite the sight to see, and it was such a beautiful day that many people were picnicking and just hanging out and enjoying the sun and atmosphere. It was impossible to take a picture with no people in it. I did take some close ups of the blossoms, but I felt this picture gave a better idea of what it was like to see these trees.

The trees are over 90 years old and are still going strong. This is a huge event for the university and the merchants around campus. There is a festival with lots of cherry themed food and drinks offered by the local restaurants. The trees have their own instagram page and X accounts as well. If you are ever in Seattle in March, this is a must see.
