Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

Another slow week. I have only added three books to the stack, one in each category. I plan on getting to at least two of these soon, but the ARC will have to wait a month or two. Let me know in the comments if you have any of these on your TBR.

Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross

Published: September 2, 2025

Summary from Goodreads:

Born in the firelit domain of the under realm, Matilda is the youngest goddess of her clan, blessed with humble messenger magic. But in a land where gods often kill each other to steal power and alliances break as quickly as they are forged, Matilda must come of age sooner than most. She may be known to carry words and letters through the realms, but she holds a secret she must hide from even her dearest of allies to ensure her survival. And to complicate matters . . . there is a mortal boy who dreams of her, despite the fact they have never met in the waking world.

Ten years ago, Vincent of Beckett wrote to Matilda on the darkest night of his life―begging the goddess he befriended in dreams to help him. When his request went unanswered, Vincent moved on, becoming the hardened, irreverent lord of the river who has long forgotten Matilda. That is, until she comes tumbling into his bedroom window with a letter for him.

As Fate would have it, Matilda and Vincent were destined to find each other beyond dreams. There may be a chance for Matilda to rewrite the blood-soaked ways of the gods, but at immense sacrifice. She will have to face something she fears even more than losing her magic: to be vulnerable, and to allow herself to finally be loved.

I was pretty surprised how quickly my library was able to process this book and get it out on the holds shelf. Usually I have to wait a month or more for a new book. But I was pretty pleased to pick it up. I hope to start this sometime next week.

The Final Problem by Arturo Perez-Reverte

Publication Date: February 10, 2026

Summary from Goodreads:

June, 1960. Rough weather at sea leaves a group of strangers stranded on the idyllic Greek island of Utakos, all guests of the only local hotel. Nothing could prepare them for what happens Edith Mander, a quiet British tourist, is found dead inside the beach cabana. What appears at first glance to be a clear suicide reveals possible signs of foul play to Ormond Basil, an out-of-work but still well-known actor who in his glory days portrayed the most celebrated detective of all times. Accustomed to seeing him display Sherlock Holmes’ amazing powers of deduction on the big screen, the other guests believe that the actor is the best equipped to uncover the truth behind this classic closed-room mystery.

This clever, whip-smart, locked-room mystery from internationally bestselling author Arturo Pérez-Reverte is a love letter to golden-age detective novels. The Final Problem delights in exploring the tension between an investigator and his suspects, as well as a writer and his reader. The final reveal will surprise even the sharpest mystery lover in a truly satisfying conclusion.

I found out about this one from the publisher and after reading the description I just couldn’t resist requesting it. Sounds like a lot of fun, and I almost always enjoy a Sherlock like mystery.

*Dark Water Daughter by H.M. Long

Read by Samuel Roukin and Moira Quirk

Published: July 2023

Summary from Goodreads:

A stormsinger and pirate hunter join forces against a deathless pirate lord in this swashbuckling Jacobean adventure on the high-seas.

Mary Firth is a Stormsinger: a woman whose voice can still hurricanes and shatter armadas. Faced with servitude to pirate lord Silvanus Lirr, Mary offers her skills to his arch-rival in exchange for protection – and, more importantly, his help sending Lirr to a watery grave. But her new ally has a vendetta of his own, and Mary’s dreams are dark and full of ghistings, spectral creatures who inhabit the ancient forests of her homeland and the figureheads of ships.

Samuel Rosser is a disgraced naval officer serving aboard The Hart, an infamous privateer commissioned to bring Lirr to justice. He will stop at nothing to capture Lirr, restore his good name and reclaim the only thing that stands between himself and madness: a talisman stolen by Mary.

Finally, driven into the eternal ice at the limits of their world, Mary and Samuel must choose their loyalties and battle forces older and more powerful than the pirates who would make them slaves.

I read this back when it came out and the sequel too when it became available. But with the third book recently released, I decided that I wanted to reread the first two before tackling the third. I really enjoyed this two years ago and I am looking forward to listening to it again.

So that is it for this week’s Stacking the Shelves. I hope all of you are having a great weekend and are finding time to read as well. I have been enjoying the last of the sunshine here in the Pacific Northwest as the rain will be starting again soon. Then it will be months of gloom until we see the sun again. Until next time…

Happy Reading !
