September was a very good month. Lots of fun and enjoyable books. It was hard to pick favorites this month. In total I read 14 books, which is slightly lower than my usual, but after last months high, I was ok with that. I didn’t write a lot of reviews this month, I was feeling a bit burned out on writing, but the few I did I will link with the titles and I’ve marked them with and asterisk. There are a couple that are linked to old reviews as they were rereads. Here is my Storygraph ratings collage for the month.

Favorite ARCs

*Red City was a great story about magic and power. I just loved the characters and the story was perfect. Looking forward to the next one.
*Redneck Revenant is the start of a new story in the Adam Binder series. I loved the story and it was nice to visit with the characters again.
*A Curious Kind of Magic was a very sweet cozy fantasy. I adored the characters and loved the found family feel of the story.
*A Draught for a Dragon was also a cozy fantasy that was a lot of fun to read. It is the final book in the series and I was sad that it was ending, but loved the happy ending of this book.
Reading Challenge Books

*A Walk in the Woods is a memoir about the author’s hike on the Appalachian trail. It was a very funny yet poignant look at nature and friendship.
*The Everlasting was perhaps my favorite book of the month. I just loved this time travel story of love and myths. This was also an ARC, but fit nicely with my Buzzword Cover Challenge for the month.
Better the Blood was a thriller set in New Zealand with a Maori detective. I found the story compelling and learned quite a bit about the Maori culture. I read this one for the 52 Book Club Challenge.
Favorite Reads

*The Malevolent Seven was a reread, but I still really enjoyed it. I love this misfit crew of warrior mages and their fight to save the world.
The Malevolent Eight is the sequel to the above book and was just as much fun as the first. I really enjoyed the story and spending time with the crew. Not sure if there will be a third book, but I am hoping there will be.
Nightshade was a really good police procedural set in the Los Angeles area on the Island of Catalina. I liked the main character and enjoyed the mystery. This is the start of a new series.
Favorite Audiobooks

*The CIA Book Club is a nonfiction book about the role the CIA played in the fall of the Soviet Union by supplying subversive books and other printing supplies to Poland and other countries.
Double Whammy was a fun book to listen to. I loved the story and the characters were just hilarious.
*Dark Water Daughter was a reread, but this time I did the audiobook. I loved the two narrators and thought they did an excellent job bringing the characters to life.

As you can see, I really couldn’t pick favorites this month. I included all but one book in my summary. My ARCs were especially good and I just couldn’t bring myself to leave any of those out. October so far is shaping up to be a great month as well. Until next time…
