My Monthly Wrap-Up: May 2026

Wow! May was crazy and seemed like the longest month ever! It was also a very expensive month with my 20 year old car needing replacing and the start of the process of buying a new home. Don’t recommend doing both of those at the same time. But I am enjoying my new car and I am looking forward to living at the new house, just not the move.

Somehow I managed to read 17 books this month. They were all pretty good too, and many of them were fast reads. Only three under 4 stars which is pretty good. The audiobooks I listened to were all the best this month.

I am also keeping up quite nicely with my reading challenges. I actually finished one of them, The Speccy Challenge, and I am more than half way through the 52 Book Club challenge. I am only a little bit behind on my nonfiction reading, but I hope to make up for that soon.

Favorite ARCs

Three Hitmen and a Baby was great. It was fun hanging out with this gang of reformed assassins again. They got into a lot of trouble in this one, but I appreciated their commitment to stay sober and not kill anyone even when they were fighting for their lives.

Somebody Worth Killing was also a fun time and a very easy read. It was totally predictable, but I still enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the sequel.

Silent Paths of Night was a great sequel to the first book. I loved the growth in the characters and the world building is phenomenal.

Reading Challenge Books

Ocean: Earth’s Last Wilderness was my nonfiction read for the month. I enjoyed this audiobook and I learned some new things about the creatures that live in the ocean.

How to Cheat Your Own Death (Buzzword Cover Challenge) was a nice addition to this series. It was sort of predictable although there was a nice twist to it as well.

The Monsters We Make (Buzzword Reading Challenge) was a very chilling story. I totally knew who the villain was from the start, but the ending was still pretty explosive.

Moss’d in Space (SPECCY Fiction Challenge) was a lot of fun, but a little on the slow side. Still I am looking forward to reading the next one. I really enjoyed the characters especially Moss.

Our Lady of Blades (52 book club) was a really good story that I enjoyed. It was perhaps a little bit on the long side. But I loved the two sisters and their story of revenge,

Favorite Reads

Wolf Worm was a really good story with a lot of Eww, Ick! moments, but nothing horrible. I did like the tenacity of the women in this story. Remind me never to visit North Carolina without a lot of bug spray.

Miss WInter in the Library with a Knife was also a lot of fun. I had a hard time figuring out the mysteries, but I really enjoyed the characters and the settings.

This Book Made Me Think of You was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed. It was a little bit sad at times, but it had a beautiful ending. Picked up a few book titles to add to my TBR as well.

Favorite Audiobooks

Didn’t You Use to Be Queenie B? was an excellent book that I highly recommend. I loved the characters and all of the cooking sounded amazing.

This Story Might Save Your Life was a great audiobook to listen to. The narrators did an excellent job. The story was great as well, I would totally listen to this podcast if it really existed. Some very nice twists in this story as well.

Murder By Memory was a great little novella that I really wished was a full length novel. I loved the setting of the generational spaceship and the concept of everyone’s memories being downloaded to books.

That is it for the month of May. Lots of good books were read. Hopefully that will continue into the month of June. I hope your reading month was just perfect for you. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
