Happy September! Even though I have been retired for a few years now, it still feels a bit weird not to be going back to school every year. I was a teacher in some capacity for over 30 years and I do miss it sometimes, especially this time of year.
Lots of good books to talk about on my TBR for the month. Somehow I ended up with five really good ARCs for October. Most of them are pretty long as well, so hopefully they will be fast paced and exciting reads. So looking forward to all of them. Then I have chosen four more to read that are all part of my challenges that I am doing this year.
ARCs I need to read
The Blood Queen (Oct. 6th) is the second book in The Crimson Throne series. I really enjoyed the first book so I am very much looking forward to reading this one.
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Murder (Oct. 16th) will be my first christmas book of the year! I loved the first book in this series, The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year, last year so I really hope this one is just as good.
Grim Folk Tale (Oct. 20th) is the fourth book in the Unorthodox Chronicles. So far I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, so I am pretty sure this will be a good one as well.
Backwoods Banshee (Oct. 27th) is also the next book in the Adam Binder series, number five to be exact, and isn’t that a great cover? Another great series that I am really looking forward to continuing.
Mortal Things (Oct. 27th) might be a standalone, or it could be the start of a new series. I’m not sure which, but whichever it is I am sure it will be great. I have loved every book this author has written.
Other books I plan to read
Subculture Vulture is my nonfiction book for the month. It is actually a memoir, but it is also about various subcultures like Burning Man, deaf culture, alcoholics anonymous, all of which the author was a part of before becoming a comedian. The author also narrates the audiobook, so it should be pretty good.
King of Ashes is one of the books from my 2025 TBR that I am finally getting around to reading. I’ve waited this long mostly because of the long list of holds at the library, but also because it fits the prompt for this months Buzzword cover challenge, which was a cover with fire or smoke.
Here Lie All the Boys Who Broke My Heart is also a book I chose for one of my challenges. The Buzzword reading challenge prompt for this month is a title with the word, me, my or mine in it. This also sounds like it will be a really good YA mystery thriller.
The Secret Lives of Murderers’ Wives is also a challenge book. It is one of the last books that I am reading for the 52 Book Club Challenge which I hope to be finishing up in September.
It will be a busy month of reading, but I think I am up for it. The big move is almost over, we are mostly down to what is in the garage, which luckily is mostly my husband’s job. I still have quite a bit of unpacking to do, and some rearranging. But now I am feeling a bit less stressed about it and can take my time. And hopefully find more time for reading.
