My week ended up being busier than I thought it would be. It was fun though. The author/illustrator, Ben Clanton, visited my school and he was awesome. The kids really enjoyed him. I just love his Narwhal and Jelly series. If you have a young child you should definitely check out his books. They are fun and the illustrations are simple but wonderfully done.
The next night I went to an event at my local indie bookstore. Lemony Snicket and his wife, Lisa Brown did a presentation about their new book, Goldfish Ghost. That was a lot of fun. He has a very dry humor but still funny at the same time. I also enjoyed seeing Lisa Brown, I have liked her work for awhile and it was interesting to hear her talk about her work. She even pointed out a few things in the book’s illustrations I hadn’t noticed.
The rest of the week wasn’t as eventful, but still busy. We had an amazing thunderstorm on Thursday which is unusual for us. It was very intense and my poor cat spent most of the evening under the covers on the bed. I’m beginning to think that maybe Spring might be starting, but I’m not holding my breath. One day above 70 does not make it Spring, but I’m more hopeful. I’m hoping to get out and do some planting today.
I got more reading done this week than last which was good. Sorry that I didn’t post anything much. Just too busy and tired. I should be back to normal this week though.
I will definitely being reviewing three books this week. I really enjoyed all three, although I did think that King’s Cage was the last in the series. Surprise! I’m looking forward to the sequel to The Thousandth Floor. I’m working on Orphan Island and hope to have it done soon.
Monday: King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
Tuesday: The Dragon With a Chocolate Heart by Stephanie Burgis
Wednesday: Cover Art
Thursday: Orphan Island by Laurel Snyder.
Friday: The Thousandth Floor by Katherine McGee
I’ve been trying to read Waste of Space by Gina Damico all week, but it keeps freezing after the title page. It is an e-galley from Netgalley. I’ve let them know about the issue, but they say everything is fine with it and suggested a few things which I did but still not working. So, we will see. I really want to read it though. If I get that working it will be on the top of my list, otherwise here is what I’m planning on reading and listening to this week.
I really enjoyed Firstlife. It is very different and very thought provoking.
I hadn’t seen the cover for Dragon’s Green. The Netgalley one is pretty much a blank, but I really like this, and of course it has dragons, so you know I will enjoy it.
I read Infinity way back when, and was hooked on the series and read maybe the first five books. But then other books got in the way and when I went to read the next book, I was so lost that I have decided to reread or listen to them again. There will ultimately be 14 books, with number 8 coming out in the fall. My plan is to have all seven done before then.
That is my confession for the week. I’m looking forward to a slower pace at work this week, so hopefully I will have time to read and post. Happy reading to you all!
