The Twelve Days of Christmas Book Tag!

I saw this over on Paper Fury last week and just knew that I had to do it. This is my favorite Christmas Carol, so how could I resist. It was created by Falling Down the Book Hole.

I decided that I was only going to use books that I read this year to answer all of the prompts. For the most part I also stuck to books that were published this year. I hope that you enjoy this book tag as much as I had fun doing it!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?

This was a really hard one for me. There were so many stand alone books this year. But I finally decided on Sorcery of Thorns, because of the story. It was just so much fun! Plus I really enjoyed the relationship that developed between Nathaniel and Elizabeth, plus Silas the demon was wonderful, and magical libraries. It just hit all of the things I look for in a good book.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

So you knew Magnus was going to show up somewhere on this list right? Even though The Red Scrolls of Magic wasn’t everything I wanted it to be, it was still good and Magnus and Alec are just so sweet together, that I don’t ever want their relationship to end.

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

I’m pretty sure this is not the best trilogy I have ever read, but it was the best one that I finished this year. The Constellation series just has so much going for it. Space, romance, the moral dilemma of what makes someone human, plus a great story and characters. Abel is probably one of my top five favorite AI’s.

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?

The Great Library is definitely in the top five of my favorite series. The world building was awesome, loved the concept of the Alexandria Library taking control of knowledge. Who ever controls knowledge controls the world. Still want a miniature automaton for my own.

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

So I am cheating a little bit here. I haven’t finished this series yet, but I am pretty sure that I will hate the Fae just as much from when I started it. I couldn’t think of one villain from this year that stood out from the rest. So I choose the Fae from these books. They are just plain nasty in this series and there are very few that I like. Even the non-fae are not that nice.

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?

Weather Magic is such cool concept. I loved the world that is created for these books. I am so excited to get my hands on the next and final book in the series next year.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?

The Iron Druid series are the only books not published this year, but I did discover them and I just love them. I adore Oberon, Atticus’s Irish Wolfhound and their relationship is perfect. Oberon’s observations on humans is priceless.

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes food to a whole new level?

I only read two books this year that I could remember had some sort of food as a theme. I chose Hungry Hearts because of the way the short stories all related to each other and all had some sort of food as the basis of the story. Very well done.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favorite kickass female lead?

Darby is certainly not what you would typically think of as a kickass female lead. She has no training, no superpowers, she is just your average college girl. But when she is thrown into this horrible situation she doesn’t just sit quietly in a corner hoping it will all go away. She makes mistakes, but she gets the job done and is a kickass hero for that reason.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favorite leading lad?

A little cheat here, I’m naming both Simon and Baz. They are both great guys and so need to just get their acts together and admit their feeling for each other. Wayward Son was such and epic road trip book as well.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favorite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

It took me awhile to come up with one for this prompt. I couldn’t think of any books that music was important in until I remembered this little gem of a middle grade book. A Darkness of Dragons is based on the Pied Piper story it is a wonderful, musical romp with dragons and heroes and just really well done. I loved it!

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.

Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?

All of the books I have mentioned so far are favorites, so I couldn’t pick just one, for this prompt. So I decided to give you twelve more of my favorites from the year.

Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate. I hope you are having a wonderful day. And to those of you who don’t celebrate, I hope you are having a wonderful day too.
