My July 2023 TBR

Yikes! How can it almost be July already? I can’t believe that the year is almost over. Hopefully the next half of the year will move a bit more slowly as I will be more relaxed. My July TBR is pretty full. I have lots of books planned out with room to add more that catch my interest when I cruise through the library. Nine books this month, instead of my usual eight as one of them is a novella and will only take a day to read.

ARCs I need to read

Mister Magic sounds like a really interesting read. I love that cover with the dripping old fashioned TV. This is about a group of child actors who as adults come together to solve the mystery around their TV show. It is part mystery, part horror, with some supernatural elements thrown in. Sounds like a wild ride.

Thornhedge is a novella, and a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I’m sure it will be quite wonderful as it is coming from the mind of T. Kingfisher. I didn’t realize it was a novella until after I requested it, but that’s ok.

Where the Dead Sleep is a murder mystery that takes place in a small town. I read the first book in this series, And There He Kept Her and really quite enjoyed the characters and the story.

Her Radiant Curse is set in the world of the Six Crimson Cranes and centers around the story of Channi and Vanna. So far I have enjoyed this author’s other books and I am sure this one will be just as good.

The Mystery at Dunvegan Castle is the third book in the Edinburgh Nights series. So far I have liked this futuristic urban fantasy series and I can’t wait to see where this book takes us.

More books I plan to read

Shortly after I read The Road to Roswell, this children’s nonfiction book about UFOs and Roswell came across my desk. I was intrigued and since it is by one of my favorite children’s author, Crash From Outer Space made it onto my summer TBR list.

Hestia Strikes a Match caught my eye on someone’s blog, sorry I don’t remember whose, and I immediately put it on hold at the library. It is about Hestia, who is just trying to find love while the world around her collapses.

I think this will be the year that I catch up on all of T. Kingfisher’s books. Next up on my list is Nettle & Bone. I fell in love with the tagline: “This isn’t the kind of fairy tale where the princess marries a prince. It’s the one where she kills him.

Secretly Yours is another one I saw on someone’s blog, but I can’t remember whose. I really need to figure out a way to keep track of those books. Anyways, it is a straight up romcom that sounded really good.

This is a nice selection of books, though it might be a bit heavy on the fantasy side. I might balance it out with some science fiction and more mysteries as my other reads this month. I am quite excited to get started on this list. I hope you all have great reads planned for your month of reading. Which book or books are you most excited to read in July?

  1. Your July TBR looks fantastic! “Mister Magic” seems like a thrilling blend of mystery and horror, and the premise of child actors solving a TV show mystery sounds intriguing. Have you read any other books by T. Kingfisher? “Thornhedge” sounds like a unique retelling of Sleeping Beauty. And “Hestia Strikes a Match” caught my attention too! Which genre do you tend to lean towards more: fantasy, science fiction, or mysteries? And if you had to pick just one book from your TBR that you’re most excited about, which would it be?

    1. I have read a few by Kingfisher and have liked them all. I don’t have a favorite genre. If the story is good I will give it a shot. I’m pretty excited about all the books on this list. I’m not sure I can pick just one ☺️
