Stacking the Shelves

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! And audiobooks. Don’t forget audiobooks!

In other words, if you can read it or if it can be read to you – no matter how you got it – it belongs in Stacking the Shelves.

The Stacking the Shelves meme was originally hosted at Team Tynga’s Reviews. It is currently hosted by Reading Reality.

Happy Saturday! I’ve been a bit busy adding books to my stack this week. I’ve been looking back at all the books I wanted to read in 2025 but didn’t get around to. I was able to get two of them this week at the library, so yeah! I also found two ARCs by favorite authors that I requested from Netgalley. Really looking forward to reading those even though neither comes out for a few months. No audiobooks this week. I haven’t decided what book I want to listen to after I finish my current one.

Library books I have added to my bedside stack

The Frozen People is one that I have been interested in reading for awhile. It is a time travel cold case mystery book. The detective in this one gets trapped in Victorian England. I love time travel and mysteries so hopefully this one will be a win.

Somehow I missed that Stephanie Garber had a book released in 2025. But luckily I was able to get a copy pretty quick from the library. Alchemy of Secrets is a mishmash of a lot of genres, but it is mostly an urban historical fantasy. I think there also might be a mystery? Anyways, it sounds good to me and this author has never disappointed me.

The Anniversary by Alex Finlay

Publication Date: May 12, 2026

Every Year He Comes For Them.

On one fateful night in 1992, the lives of two seventeen-year-olds are changed and intertwined forever. Quinn Riley, a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, is arrested after he innocently tries to break up a fight but ends up nearly killing someone. Jules Delaney, high school royalty, survives an attack by the elusive and terrifying May Day Killer—a serial predator who strikes every May 1st in midwestern small towns.

A year later, Jules is struggling with trauma and guilt, tormented by the Why was I spared? Quinn is newly released from juvenile detention and returns home to fresh the unsolved murder of his mother.

Over the next decade, their lives are revisited on a single day each year—May 1st. As secrets unravel and the paths of Quinn and Jules collide, two mysteries edge closer to the truth. All the while, the May Day Killer is still out there—and the clock is racing toward another May 1st.

The Anniversary is an utterly compelling story of the hunt for a serial killer. But it’s also a heartfelt—and heartrending—novel about fate, innocence lost, and two souls who find that sometimes being broken is the only way for the light to get in.

I was a little disappointed in the last book by this author, but this one sounds pretty good. I always enjoy a good serial killer book and this one sounds very intriguing.

Entwined by H.M. Long

Publication Date: March 10, 2026

Three sisters join the hunt for a stolen magical artefact in the start of this Gilded Age fantasy duology.

Ottilie Rushforth hides from the mighty Sorcerer’s Guild as secretary to a has-been detective. She is Entwined – threads of magic run beneath her skin, and the Guild would trap her in service.

But Ottilie has a plan to escape the Guild forever with her estranged fiancé, the enigmatic poet, soldier and smuggler Lewis Illing. All she must do is track down a mysterious artefact, claim the bounty, and leave the city forever. But Ottilie’s sisters – Pretoria, a quick-witted sorceress and thief recently emerged from exile, and Madge, a guild mage to the core, appear to make equally unwelcome offers. A new life at the cost of everything she has ever wanted, or prestige and safety in a gilded cage.

With her life on the line, Ottilie must track down the artifact in a city torn apart by prejudice and violence, and choose between the two sides of herself – the fugitive and the Entwined.

I just loved The Winter Sea trilogy so I am really excited about this one. I also really like that cover. Not usually a style that I am drawn to, but this one somehow works and gives a nice idea what the book is about.

Audiobooks

No audiobooks this week. I have just started a new one and the one I have on hold won’t be ready for a few weeks. Not sure what book I might pick up in the meantime. Probably another 2025 book that I wanted to read but didn’t get around to. If you have a suggestion let me know.

That’s it for this week’s Stacking the Shelves post. So looking forward to seeing what others have added to their stacks. I usually find one or two to add to my shelf. Until next time…

Happy Reading!
