Monthly Wrap-Up: September 2024

September was a bit of a struggle, although luckily my reading did not suffer for it. Unfortunately my desire to write reviews totally left the building. In my defense the few that I did write were for books that I really enjoyed, (except for one, but we don’t need to talk about that one.) I managed to complete 18 books this month, which is pretty average for me. I might have gotten a few more in, but one of my audiobooks was super long, so took more than a week to finish.

As I have done for the past few wrap-up posts, I have four categories which I pick three books from this month to talk about. All of the book titles are linked to either my review (*) or to their Goodread pages.

Favorite September ARCs

*Remember Me Tomorrow was such a lovely YA romance/science fiction mystery story. I really enjoyed the characters and the mystery. Plus the romance was just adorable.

*Monstrous Nights was such a great sequel to *Foul Days. I am hoping that we get more stories like this from this new author.

*Don’t Let the Forest In was such a compelling and beautifully written story. I wasn’t a fan of the ending, but the rest was just so beautifully, hauntingly sad that I couldn’t put it down.

Reading Challenge Books

*While Idaho slept (Nonfiction Reading Challenge) was an account of the horrific murders of four college students in a small college town in Idaho.

What Feasts at Night (Epic Reading Challenge: Favorite Season) is set in autumn so it was the perfect read for this prompt. It was kind of scary and there were some very gory parts near the end, but a well done story.

Still See You Everywhere (Buzzword Reading Challenge: Senses) was a very exciting read and the third book in the Frankie Elkin series. This time it is set on an isolated tropical island with many suspects and a thrilling conclusion.

Favorite Reads

Red Side Story was a great sequel to the first book. I really enjoyed this society based on what color you can see and all of the crazy rules. I hope we don’t have to wait long for the next book.

Trust Me When I Lie was a great debut novel by this author. I really liked the main character, Jack Quick, and the mystery was quite good. It is quite different from his more recent books, it was more serious, but still well written and fun to read.

Clockwork Boys was also a nice fun read. Loved all of the characters and the story was very interesting. I hope to get to the second book soon.

Favorite Audiobooks

Black Tide Son was also a great sequel. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, Dark Water Daughter and found this one just as delightful. I am really looking forward to the release of the third book next year.

End of Story was also a great listen. The mystery was great and the big twist at the end was something I never ever would have guessed.

Shadowstitch was really long, but I didn’t mind that so much because the narrator was so good that it made the story fly by. I am also thrilled that this is a series, thought it was a duology, but I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next one as that ending was quite the cliffhanger.

I am really hoping that my mood about writing reviews improves this month. I really want to share my thoughts on the books I read as that was the point of starting this blog oh so many years ago. I have lots of good books lined up to read this month, so hopefully that will help.

Until next time…

Happy Reading!
